Kindergarten Enrollment

 

Dear Parents/Guardians of Incoming Kindergarteners:

Grapeview staff would like to welcome you and your family to our very special community.  Grapeview is an amazing school to start a student’s career. Below is some very important information for you as you begin your registration process. Families, if you are outside of the Grapeview School District, we are requesting that you ask to be placed on our potential enrollments list. Placement for out of district students is based on School Board Policy 3141, Nonresident Students. We typically do not accept out of district Kindergarten students until the first week of school.

The Grapeview School District has moved to an entirely digital format for registration. Your packet can be submitted through our online new student registration, found on our school district homepage at www.gsd54.org, under Kindergarten Registration.  If you are unable to access our online registration please contact the main office so we may assist you. We are asking that all in district Kindergarten registrations be completed by June 2, 2023. If you decide to not enroll at Grapeview this year, please notify the office so we can remove your child from our list of students and open a space for a student who is out-of-district.

There are several forms which must be completed as part of the enrollment package. All forms must be completed and returned as soon as possible for registration. The immunization record is crucial as your child cannot attend unless all immunizations are up-to-date, and this form is completed. (If you have an objection to immunizations, there is an additional form you will need to have completed depending on your reasoning.) You will also need to provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate for verification of age. Please be sure to list at least two emergency contact names (outside of the immediate family) and numbers on your registration forms.  ALL families will be required to show proof of residence if you are within our school district, this is most commonly a utility bill with your name and address. (This includes those with older siblings currently attending Grapeview.)

In the fall, your student will not start school on the same day as the students in 1st – 8th grade. The first three days of school will be used for the teacher and families to meet and get to know each other. This will mean your kindergartner will have a few hours in kindergarten, followed by a meeting with you, the teacher, and your child. At that meeting, several questions will be asked regarding your child’s method of learning, interests, and social interactions. This will assist the staff to work with your child in an effective manner from day one. This means your child’s first full day for all K students will be Tuesday, September 5th, 2023. Over the summer, we are hopeful you will utilize the packet of activities in order to ensure your child is prepared for the beginning of the school year.
